01 May Importance of Being an Adult
When we’re younger, we’re cute. We can mess up, accidentally be destructive and everyone is still in love with us. Your parents do things for you without thought, and even people you barely know help you out too. It’s like the world almost revolves around you when you’re young. Unfortunately, you have to grow up at some point. Some of the worst parts of growing up is “adulating.” Adulting is a new age term that is used as a verb and refers to doing average tasks and responsibilities that adults have to do.
Adulting consists of showing up and being on time to all events. You can no longer sleep in as you did as a kid and get away with it. Sure, in high school you would get a slap on the hand, however you still graduated didn’t you? When you’re an adult no one has the time to deal with someone being late because time is money. Not only do people expect adults to show up on time, they expect them to look clean. Say goodbye to your favorite sweatpants, and holey tee shirts.
Paying bills is another not so fun part of being an adult. Your parents probably don’t pay your bills anymore since you’ve moved out. They probably don’t even give you an allowance. You’re in complete control of your money that you make from your job. Unfortunately we all have bills, so being able to manage and make your paycheck last can be difficult. Paying the bills themselves can be a challenge, especially if you can only pay some bills by check, online, or in person.
The absolute worst part about being an adult is being responsible. You can’t just throw your mail into a pile by the trashcan. You have to pay the bills, call people, and set up doctor appointments. You have to be responsible and show up to your jury duty dates; you can’t just ignore them. Not paying you bills can land you in a bad situation, but not attending your jury duty dates can land you with a warrant. Not paying attention to your mail can lead you to missing the letter telling you have a warrant. All of which can land you in jail for being an irresponsible adult.
Of course, being an adult has its perks. You can go wherever you want, whenever you want. If you want to eat cereal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner you can. You can also watch all the R-rated movies that you never could as a kid. If one day you wake up and want to go to the beach you can. The only downside is that in order to do whatever you want, you must first have to be responsible. If you don’t show up to work, you won’t get paid. If you don’t get paid, you can’t pay bills. If you have a warrant out for your arrest, you’ll probably end up in jail at some point. Your cute kid innocence has worn off, it’s time to adult.
